Case Study in Brief

Beachside Produce came to RedNight Consulting from another MSP onto Amazon Web Services (AWS) to modernize their security, enhance data protection, and monitor their IT network. RedNight designed and executed a full migration that stood up a new, cost-optimized AWS environment, rolled out Amazon WorkSpaces virtual desktops, layered in multi-factor authentication and modern spam protection, and gave Beachside Produce centralized monitoring and backups for the first time. Since the original migration, RedNight has continued to serve as Beachside Produce’s managed IT partner, deploying and rebuilding Beachside Produce’s network from the ground up.

Solutions Overview

RedNight opened with a planning phase: identifying which servers needed to migrate versus be rebuilt on a current operating system and right-sizing AWS instances to control cost. In the build and test phase, RedNight provisioned a new AWS account with baseline access controls and security, built VPN tunnels from required locations, and cloned all servers and data into the new environment. RedNight stood up Amazon WorkSpaces virtual desktops, deployed a Duo MFA server integrated with both WorkSpaces and Office 365, and confirmed every user was enrolled before testing the full environment with Beachside Produce.

On go-live, RedNight engineers were onsite to install MSP tools, review hardware, and support cutover. RedNight has continued expanding Beachside Produce’s environment with simplified IT management, secure desktop access, secure data access, and a new network design to replace the outdated equipment at their main office location.

Key Challenges

Beachside Produce’s environment was a patchwork, with no consistent way to enforce multi-factor authentication, aging spam filtering, and no centralized monitoring or backup strategy. User and server counts weren’t fully documented going in, major network hardware needed to be updated at each site, and pricing was increasing once again from their current MSP. Beachside Produce needed a partner who could roll out the AWS migration with minimal disruption, support their users on new virtual desktops, right-size their new environment to control cost, and wanted to be a partner who truly understood how business operated in the Produce/Agriculture vertical.
